When Sabbath Feels Off
Where did I feel resistance?

This week I did a “do-over” Sabbath.  This was on Thursday.  Why? Because although I kept my usual Sabbath day, it didn’t feel like one.  I met up with a pastor for coffee then jumped into helping one of the businesses, thinking that it would be more fun than work.  I was wrong.  Bottom line is I learned that “keeping” the Sabbath isn’t the same thing as “honoring” the Sabbath.  Hence, Sabbath redux.

Where did I feel delight?

The LORD has really been speaking to me and leading me in our calling as KCF.  I’m eager to share this with you this coming Sunday.

Where did I most experience God’s nearness?

Solitude.  I cannot extol this enough.  Being very intentional in making time in solitude with the LORD has been huge for me.  If you are someone who earnestly desires to hear from the LORD, then please start with Solitude.  I think back to the original source of our distracted lives, and I believe that it’s found in Genesis 3.  Re-read this.  The wedge between God and you starts with refocusing your attention.  The aim of your attention is to affect your behavior.  The way to affect your behavior is to influence your mind.  Your attention then is a window to your mind.  If your mind is noisy with thoughts about a long to-do list, should’ve’s, could’ve’s, would’ve’s, self-loathing, hopelessness, the accolades of others, or seeking control, call it for what it is:  distractions from your enemy.  The starting point to reconnecting with God is to spend one-to-one time:  Solitude.  Listening.
