Out of Sync, Yet Grateful
Where did I feel resistance?

This week I’m spending time with our son Joshua who is at Pomona College in California.  It’s Family Weekend.  Tammi and I are thoroughly enjoying being back in Claremont (Tammi is an alumnus of Pomona College and me of Claremont McKenna College) where we met.  Most importantly, it’s now where our son is making it his own college, experience, and journey.  My resistance is when you travel to a different time zone you can lose track of time and days.  I think I’ve been traveling three weeks out of the month and I’m a bit out of sync physically and spiritually right now.

Where did I feel delight?

Outside in nature, whether in my backyard or Marston Quad on Pomona College campus.  Nature is a place for me to connect in solitude with our Creator God.  People are reading and relaxing under trees and benches on the quad.  It’s such a luxury and blessing to play “student” without assignments, midterms, or grades.  I think I could get used to this.  Here’s a picture of Marston Quad on a beautiful day in Claremont from my vantage point of sitting on a blanket (a new happy place).

Where did I most experience God’s nearness?

I’m reading Acts 3 and land on verses 1-8 to pray with confidence and boldness, even when the recipient of your prayer has no expectation or faith in what’s to come.  The Apostle Peter explains how the works of God are done by faith in the name of Jesus in verse 16.  As we head into our spiritual realm “sibling series” I’m emboldened by how the Apostle Peter models his faith and unlocks the miracles of God.  I also reflect on the goodness of God.  How much God loves me.  How much God loves people (Deuteronomy 32:9). I sit here on Marston Quad on U.S. presidential election day without fear or anxiety. God is above it all and we as Christ followers need to be a witness to this truth.  We abide in Him (John 15: 4-8) and allow ourselves to elevate above the anxiety of the world (Philippians 4: 6-7).  Regardless of who is elected as the next President of the United States, our God is sovereign, and our trust is in Him and Him alone.
