An Ox in the Well
Where did I feel resistance?

Well, our refrigerator compressor went out Tuesday morning during my Sabbath.  I spent the day emptying our freezer and refrigerator and trying to find a refrigerator repair person.  Some of you might know that we have a cottage on our property that also has a refrigerator, so you might think it easy to just transfer the food, no problem, right?  Well, THAT refrigerator’s motor was shot and needed to be replaced.  And, I was told that a new compressor for our fridge would take 2-3 weeks to arrive in Hawaii.  So, not so Sabbath.  I want a do-over.  But then I recalled in Luke 14: 5-8 when Jesus says, “If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out.”  Meaning, we are not to follow the Sabbath legalistically.  I’ve come to really look forward to my Sabbath and will do so this coming week.

Where did I feel delight?

Not much here.  Although, I will say that I feel blessed that an experienced refrigerator repair person fixed the cottage fridge at a far lower cost than buying a new fridge and did so with enough time to salvage a lot of food that otherwise would have gone to waste.  It could have been a lot, lot worse.  And, I hope that the refrigerator manufacturer will honor their warranty and not charge us for the failed compressor.  I’m still out the money to pay for the repairman’s time, but it could’ve been a lot worse.

Where did I most experience God’s nearness?

I still tried to squeeze in reading the Bible during my Sabbath and journaled.  This has always where I feel nearest to the LORD.  I’m thankful that even two downed refrigerators will not stop me from this discipline!
