Baptism

Baptism is one of our sacred traditions. We do this throughout the year to provide a way for people who have accepted Jesus as their LORD to publicly declare their faith in the presence of family and friends.

There is a physical submerging a person in water, which represents death to the old self, and a reemergence from the water which represents a new life in Christ. Although done physically, we believe that this act has spiritual implications as well, as this declaration of faith communicates and aligns our souls with those in the spiritual realm, particularly Jesus himself. During baptism which we typically do in the warm, beautiful waters in Hawaii, we typically combine it with an all-church picnic in celebration of this momentous time in someone’s life.

Some Biblical verses that explain this sacred act include:

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old is gone, the new is here.” 2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6, NIV
