Leilani Health is a local non-profit focused on providing medical attention for the houseless and those impacted by natural disasters, seeking to share the love and hope of Jesus through this work. Leilani Health is assisting communities on ‘Oahu that have experienced devastation from the flooding.

Joanna Chinen has been involved with Leilani Health for the past couple of years and is letting us know that if anyone in our Formation ‘ohana is looking for ways to help our islands (specifically ‘Oahu at this time), here are some opportunities:

1. Volunteer

Fridays in Waialua from 9am-4pm, Waialua (we also plan to go weekly as needed)

We’ll be setting up a medical clinic in a friend’s carport and also going door to door to see if any residents, especially kupuna, require medical attention. We will also provide manpower to help residents clean out their homes which have been filled with mud and the surrounding areas where debris has been scattered. We need workers to clean interiors of homes by pushing out mud, hosing things, moving things to the dump, etc. They said if we show up on Friday, they will put our teams to work.

What to Bring (for yourself):

  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Boots/closed-toed shoes
  • Extra shirt (if raining)
  • Wipes to wipe down before your car ride home
  • Towel for yourself
  • Clean shoes for the ride home
  • Carpooling and 4-wheel-drive recommended if possible (the parking in some places is very muddy and very deep)

2. Donations

Monetary: Donations can be made on the Leilani Health website at www.leilanihealth.org.

Purchased Items (New):
Things residents have said they need at this time include:

  • Towels
  • Rain boots
  • Shoes in general (all have been lost in the flooding)
  • Blankets
  • Hygiene Kits – soaps, wash cloths, etc.

We also assume the following might be needed:

  • Hoses
  • Wheel barrels
  • Shovels
  • Brooms
  • Rags
  • Dish soap
