I was tempted to move my Sabbath day this week to accommodate the Labor Day holiday, to spend more time with Joshua who was home for grandpa’s celebration of life service, and to work on the first day after the Monday holiday instead. However, I kept my usual Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon Sabbath and although Tuesday morning’s rain moved me in doors instead of my usual backyard time in solitude, my Sabbath was a good one.
This week’s Sabbath was one of those in which I felt the LORD download several thoughts that I was glad to journal. I prayed for specific people this week, from belonging to healing to restfulness. I was invited to speak at a gathering of Christian business owners and felt that I was to speak about what makes a Christ-centered business different from a secular ethical one. The answer: Christian businesses should be a beach head in the war for human dignity, illustrating that a Christian business exists for reasons beyond providing for the owner’s family. I’ll share more on this one day.
My Sabbath time has been a great time in solitude to pray and sit with the LORD. I’m also re-reading the Book of John (my favorite book in the Bible), lectio divina, reading Richard Foster’s Streams of Living Water, and Dallas Willard’s The Divine Conspiracy. It’s been remarkable how much what I’m reading is relevant to everything going on in my life right now.
