Pat’s story is a reminder that spiritual transformation begins with a simple invitation—both to God and to others. What started with “Come, Holy Spirit” and a child’s loving question became a powerful story of renewal, community, and faith awakened.
Come, Holy Spirit
Sometimes the most life-changing prayers are the simplest. For Pat, everything began with three quiet words: “Come, Holy Spirit.”
At the time, his faith felt lukewarm—neither fully distant nor fully alive. But something stirred within him to ask God to meet him where he was. And that’s exactly what happened.
Like the Apostle Paul’s encounter on the road to Damascus in Acts 9, Pat’s experience with the Holy Spirit wasn’t forced, scripted, or complex. It was a moment of divine presence meeting human openness. The Spirit showed up in a way that was unmistakably real, awakening Pat’s heart to God’s love and power.
That encounter echoes the same prayer many of us have whispered in our own moments of searching: “God, if You’re real, please reveal Yourself to me.” And the truth is—He does. My prayer, like Pat’s, is that everyone experiences the Holy Spirit this way: personally, tangibly, undeniably. All we have to do is ask.
But God didn’t stop there. Just as the Spirit met Pat personally, He also surrounded him communally. It was through an unexpected group—what Pat affectionately calls his “women’s group”—that God began to deepen his spiritual life. Week after week, they studied Scripture, prayed, and encouraged one another. That small community became the environment where Pat’s faith grew roots.
This mirrors what we’ve seen throughout Scripture and in the life of the early Church: spiritual growth happens in community. We are shaped, refined, and strengthened through the people God places around us. For some, especially introverts, joining a group can feel uncomfortable at first. But Pat’s story reminds us—it’s worth it. God uses community to form us, sharpen us, and remind us that we’re not alone.
And then, there’s the moment that started it all. One Sunday, a simple question from a 4-year-old changed everything. Camden, Pat’s son, asked, “Daddy, why don’t you go to church with us?” That innocent question—spoken in pure love—was the Holy Spirit’s invitation through the voice of a child.
Pat accepted the invitation. He began attending KCF, reconnecting with God and discovering a community that would become his spiritual family.
It’s a powerful reminder that the Spirit often works through simple, loving acts—through quiet prayers, small groups, or even a child’s question. Sometimes the greatest miracles begin not with a sermon or a plan, but with an invitation spoken in love.
So maybe today, God is inviting you too—to pray, “Come, Holy Spirit.” Or maybe He’s prompting you to extend that same invitation to someone else. Because one simple question, one open prayer, or one act of love can change everything.
