It’s a busy time of year as the school year draws to a close. There are a lot of events and activities throughout the week. We also had a friend from out of town staying with us which is always fun and normal “distraction.” I found that preparing myself of the Sabbath is more difficult in times of swirling activity.
Josh and I were home together on Tuesday afternoon during my Sabbath and we decided to share our independent reading of the Bible with each other, reflecting on what a passage says about God, people, what we are to change in our life, and who else needs to hear this message. Turns out Josh and I are both re-reading the Book of John. It was such a good time discussing and sharing what the Spirit revealed to each of us and through our time reading scripture together.
I’m now drawing a parallel between my feeling that this season is short with my son Josh as he heads to college on the mainland at the end of summer, and how our time on earth is a short season that we share with our Heavenly Father. I am thankful in the hope that we have in spending eternity together and at the same time cherish how precious the time we have in the season of now. Time is the one commodity that we never get back, so to find the stillness in the moment, with our God and our loved ones, has to be a priority. Jesus modeled it many, many times in making time in the eremos a priority.
