Tammi’s story is a picture of God’s design for both the human body and the body of Christ—how, when one part is weak, another strengthens it. Through her journey with anemia, she discovered that God created us to support one another in community and to live out our unique design as His masterpiece.
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made for One Another
Tammi’s story begins with her body. When she was diagnosed with anemia, she learned that her heart had started to work harder to provide more oxygen throughout her body. It was her body’s natural, God-designed way of compensating for weakness. That realization led her to a powerful spiritual insight: this is exactly how God designed community to work.
When one part of the body is in distress, the other parts rise up to help. And just as her physical heart adjusted to sustain her body, Tammi saw how family and church members often step in to strengthen one another in times of difficulty. “This is God’s design,” she says. “We were never meant to go through life alone.”
Her experience revealed a deeper truth about the way we’re made—not only physically, but spiritually. In Psalm 139:14, Scripture says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” For Tammi, this verse is more than poetry—it’s a lens for understanding identity and purpose. Every person is uniquely created by God, not just in appearance but in calling.
Helping people discover how they are fearfully and wonderfully made has become one of Tammi’s greatest joys. She often introduces others to a framework called SHAPE, developed by Erik Rees, which helps believers identify their God-given design:
- S – Spiritual gifts
- H – Heart for a role, people, or cause
- A – Abilities
- P – Personality
- E – Experiences
Through SHAPE, Tammi helps others uncover the unique ways God intends for them to serve and flourish. It’s a process that reminds each person that no part of the body is insignificant. Every member matters—and together, we reflect the fullness of God’s design.
Tammi’s own faith was formed early. Growing up in the church, she memorized Bible verses that would later become anchors during seasons of adversity. One that continues to shape her life is Philippians 4:6–7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
That peace has become the steady rhythm of her faith—a peace that reminds her to trust God’s design even when she doesn’t understand it.
Tammi’s journey reminds us that the same God who fearfully and wonderfully made our bodies also made the body of Christ to function as one. When one part suffers, another strengthens. When one grows weary, another offers rest. And when each of us lives out our unique SHAPE in love and service, the whole body becomes healthy, whole, and beautifully aligned with its Creator.
