Amplifying Prayers
“1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”
Acts 13: 1-3, NIV
In Week 3 of the Practice of Fasting we reviewed how Fasting amplifies our prayers. First, Fasting amplifies our ability to hear God (Acts 13: 1-13). Second, Fasting amplifies our voice to God (Jonah 3: 5, 10). We find Fasting depicted as a standard spiritual practice throughout Scripture in God’s chosen people such as Moses, David, Samuel, Esther, the prophets, and more. And most importantly, in Jesus himself! In modern times we can view the Miracle at Dunkirk on May 24, 1940 as an answer to prayer and fasting when all 338,000 Allied troops were spared through three simultaneous miracles. Fast to amplify your prayers!
