Defining
“A double minded man is unstable in all. His ways.”
James 4: 7-10, NIV

Welcome to our new series “Recognizing & Destroying Strongholds.” The content of this series we credit to Dr. Ed Silvoso, a man of God who has poured so much into our local denomination and who we owe a great debt for sharing his time and God-inspired wisdom with us. We begin with identifying three major weapons of satan: sin, accusations, and strongholds. Strongholds is the focus of our series and worth a definition:

“Mindset
impregnated with hopelessness
that forces us to accept as unchangeable
situations we know are contrary to the will of God.”

Let’s break down this definition as follows:

Mindset: It’s something that dwells in your mind. Your mind guides your behavior.
Impregnated: It’s something that got into you from the outside. It’s not something that grows organically in how God designed you. In fact, it’s something opposed to God’s design.
Hopelessness: Belief that your desired outcome will never happen.
Forces us to accept: Bondage to a lie.
Unchangeable: Something that we feel powerless to alter the outcome.
Contrary to the will of God: Contrary to how we are designed by God.

Examples of strongholds include: unforgiveness, immorality, lack of intimacy in marriage, failure in child rearing. Now that we know what strongholds are, next week we’ll reveal how to identify them in your life.
