The definition of a stronghold that we’re using from Dr. Ed Silvoso is:
“Mindset
impregnated with hopelessness
that forces us to accept as unchangeable
situations we know are contrary to the will of God.”
Destroying strongholds starts with knowing your identity. I like what Bethany Hicks and Dan McCollam say “You can’t do what God says you will do until you believe who God says you are.” The foundation of destroying a stronghold is to walk in the authority, favor, and influence that we have in Christ. This is stated clearly in Revelation 12:11 and Ephesians 2:4-6. How exactly we do this is found in the book of James 4: 7-10:
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4: 7-10, NIV
Here’s is the recipe to God empowering you to destroy a stronghold:
Submit to God = Recognize there is no duality
Resist the devil and he will flee = Have courage
Come near to God = Seek and stay close, continually
Wash hands = Repent of past behavior
Purify hearts = Reconnect with the Spirit in you
Double-minded = Be single-minded on God
Grieve, mourn, wail = Repent
Humble yourself = Less of your thoughts, more of God’s
