Family Bank
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
James 1:27, NIV
This week we walk from Villafranca del Bierzo uphill to the steepest elevation on our camino to O’Cebreiro, a village on the top of the Galician mountains. It is here that we read James 1: 19-27.
Be a good listener. Be slow to anger. (v. 19)
Those who do not live according to the Word are caught in bondage and miss out on the LORD’s blessings. (v. 23-24)
Loving our neighbor is a call to social justice. (v. 27)
It is here that we also ask ourselves, “If our gift of life was seen as a loan from God, who is our family who will help us repay this loan?” This is the concept of the “family bank” where our family holds us accountable and supports us in repaying a debt.
