I am the Bread of Life
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

John 6:35, NIV

Do we trust that Jesus is all that we need?  As the “bread of life,”(John 6:35) Jesus is the only one who fulfills our spiritual hunger.  Sunday was Week One of our seven week series on the seven “I AMs” of Jesus found in the Book of John, and will prepare us for Easter on March 31st.  Believed to be written by John, a direct disciple of Jesus, one of the twelve, the Book of John would be a first-hand, eye-witness account of Jesus.  Importantly, John’s account shows us that Jesus clearly and unequivocally claims to be God by saying “I am,” harkening back to Exodus 3:14 when God says to Moses, “I am who I am.”

These seven “I AMs” define who Jesus himself says that he is and the characteristics that make him God.  I look forward to unpacking this with you on our journey leading up to Easter.  Just like the bread metaphor that Jesus uses following the miracle of feeding the 5,000, this Sunday we’ll see a light metaphor used to describe who Jesus is.  Please read along with me John 8:2-20, NIV, especially verse 12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
