I am the Light of the World
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12, NIV
We’ve been reviewing Jesus’ 7 “I AM”s in the Book of John. These are 7 characteristics of God that Jesus used to describe himself. With the second “I AM” in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world,” I believe Jesus is saying that he defines life’s universal moral law and illuminates truth and goodness. It’s when we follow him that we find an abundant life. The metaphor of “light” (goodness) contrasts “darkness” (evil, sin). I encourage you to read John 8: 2-20.
