Interruptible
“Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”
Luke 10: 36-37, NLT
It has been mentioned that in the Gospel of Mark Jesus was interrupted over 30 times. And He used these interruptions to love and serve people. Are you interruptible like Jesus? When that email, text, or phone call interrupts your day, how do you respond? While your initial instinct might be to place an electronic “do not disturb” wall around you, what if an interruption is Godʻs way to do something in your or someone elseʻs life?
The parable of the Good Samaritan only told in Luke 10 is an illustration of someone with the mindset of time as Kairos or divine time rather than chronos or mechanical time. With a Kairos mindset a follower of Jesus is focus on what God is doing in the moment rather than trying to fit activities into our busy schedule. Put another way, itʻs the application of what Jesus defines as a disciple who “denies themselves,” being open to the works of God, being interruptible, rather than self-centered on what most benefits themselves.
This week: Be interruptible.
