This week we continue to walk downhill from Triacastela to Sarria. This is an important segment to enjoy the last of the truly solitary contemplative times on our camino as the road becomes crowded starting in Sarria. Sarria marks the 100 kilometer point from Santiago which is the minimum amount that a pilgrim needs to travel in order to receive Compostela (formal certificate accrediting a pilgrim’s journey to Santiago). It is here that we read James 2: 14-26.
I journal that hearing God is one side of a two-sided coin where the other side is obeying.
Faith without action is useless. (v. 14-19)
Faith is made complete with action. (v. 20-24)
It’s common for Christians to want to hear more from God. To hear God I believe that we need to obey God. It’s a two-sided coin: Hearing and Obeying. If we don’t obey, we don’t hear. We can feel strong in our faith which is great, and yet it is when that faith is accompanied by action (stepping out in obedience) that our faith is made complete.
