We’ve now walked 87 miles going back six days when our Camino de Santiago started in Ponferrada to our current town of Palas de Rei. We are so close to Santiago now with overnight stops in Arzua and Amenal, 17.4 miles and 14.4 miles, respectively before walking our final stretch into Santiago. I’m excited. As we sit overlooking the city of Palas de Rei it’s a great time to reflect on our journey.
Family
I wish that there was a word that more accurately captures the meaning of “family.” It’s about the deep bonds that we make with one another. It’s about the influence we have on one another. It’s about how God made us to live in community. “Family” goes beyond blood and the genetics that we are born into, it’s how we live life.
Kingdom of Heaven Near
As I rewalk the camino many times in my mind’s eye I see such a contrast between the modern day life of the hustle and bustle and the intentional life of seeking God first in all things. When Jesus talked about bringing the Kingdom of Heaven near, I have a greater understanding of what He meant when I train myself to naturally seek Him first and then let the rest of life fall into place.
Earnest Heart
Seeking God first with an earnest heart is big for me. Not only have I personally experienced God in this way, it’s been a constant reminder to me to always seek Him in this manner and for me to share with you how important the condition of our heart is to God. In God’s divine wisdom in guiding our journey at KCF, THIS is how the Practices of the Way (Sabbath, Solitude, Prayer, Fasting – so far) come into play. These spiritual disciplines train and prepare our heart to seek God first in how we live our lives.
