This is the final leg of our Camino de Santiago. We take a bus from Santiago to Finisterre and Muxia on the Western coast of Spain. Finisterre is the location of the 0.00km marker and Muxia is where land meets the ocean. It’s a beautiful culmination of this pilgrimage. Read my blog to see what it’s like in these places.
In my reflection I ask, “How can I go through such a significant event in my life without Tam and Josh?” I feel a bit disconnected from my family as I see their normal life, but I feel different somehow. Ten year-old Joshua asks, “Are you going to quit your job?” I respond, “It’s not about am I in the right job. It’s bigger than that.” Joshua, “How big?” I respond, “That’s what I’m trying to figure out.” Joshua, “Family big or bigger than family?” You see how prescient my son is. Even at ten years old he could sense that his dad communed with God, and it had changed me forever.
Then there’s several verses that I journaled on this day. In James 5: 14-15 I write that prayer has the power to heal and intercede for forgiveness. Then reading further in verses 16-17 that when you pray for healing, first confess your sins to unlock the power and efficacy of your prayer. Reflecting back to Week 8 (Day 7) James 4:5, God created a spirit to dwell in us and it is this spirit that God longs for and the spirit longs for God – this is why when we choose the values and things of this world it is the same as not choosing God. We are not to be “double-minded.”
And perhaps the one verse that summarizes the Camino best is James 4: 7-10. It’s the cornerstone of our next series on Strongholds as well. Would you read it (I’ve included it at the top of this email)? Read it alone and as a family. Then reflect on what stood out to you. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you. Then, just walk.
