“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
– Mark 1:35, NIV

“In this remarkable passage you see that Jesus got up before dawn and before anyone else was awake to be in solitude with God the Father. Jesus was in such a remote location that His disciples had to look for him and when they find him what Jesus says to them is something that requires pause and reflection on what happens when you enter solitude to commune with God.

Here’s what Jesus says,

“Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

Mark 1:38,NIV

Jesus goes into the Solitude to gain clarity on His identity and calling which He then expresses to his disciples.

Your identity is not something you choose, it’s something you discover as your gift from God. Your calling is what you’re meant to do (and not do).

When I read this passage Jesus is very clear that He is called to a new location to preach. Do you see that?

What you can learn from this is that if you want to know your true identity and calling in life then enter into Solitude to commune with God the Father. Listen to scripture, reflect on your life’s circumstances, and let the Holy Spirit’s voice guide you.”
