Reflection Sunday

As we arrive at Reflection Week in our Solitude Practice, I want to share a quote from Trevor Hudson, spiritual formation pastor, Fuller Seminary professor, and author.

God

In this remarkable passage you see that Jesus got up before dawn and before anyone else was awake to be in solitude with God the Father. Jesus was in such a remote location that His disciples had to look for him and when they find him what Jesus says to them is something that requires pause and reflection on what happens when you enter solitude to commune with God.

Enemy

Most people are uncomfortable being alone with their thoughts. In fact, studies have shown that many would rather experience negative stimulation—even something as extreme as an electric shock—than sit in silence with no distractions.

Self

We begin the second in our series of spiritual disciplines of Jesus in 2025 we call Practicing the Way. Solitude is intentional time in the Quiet with yourself and God. Our four week progression goes like this:

Easter 2025

What is the Resurrection? Easter is a global celebration when Christians around the world rejoice in Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus overcoming death is at the core of the Christian faith. Jesus’ death is significant because it became the death of all of humanity’s sins and ungodliness.

Reflection

Practicing the Sabbath, as with all the other spiritual disciplines we call the Practices of Jesus, a.k.a. “Practicing the Way,” is part of a continuous journey of spiritual formation. It’s nearly impossible to go from your current state living in a frenetic world with too many things to do in not enough time in the day to spending a full day to worship God.

Worship

The Final Movement: Sabbath as Worship
We’ve come to the last teaching session of the spiritual practice of Sabbath, and my prayer for you is this: wherever you are in the journey, whether it's been life-giving or frustrating, keep at it

Delight

Joy can be explained across three facets: Joy is the feeling you experience when you follow how God wants you to live. Joy is a condition or character trait. By following Jesus you naturally become more joyful not by the circumstances of your life.

Rest

Sabbath is an act of Resistance
Last week, we explored the truth that Sabbath is a cosmic rhythm (a 6:1 pattern) designed by our Creator God—rooted in Exodus 20:8–11. This week, we shift to a powerful new movement:
